Nepal Issues Fresh Flood Alert Across Eastern, Central and Western Districts
Kathmandu, Sep 1: Nepalese authorities on Tuesday issued a fresh flood alert for several districts across eastern, central and western Nepal, warning of rising river levels and the possibility of flash floods.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has urged residents living along riverbanks, near streams and in other flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures.
According to the latest advisory, Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts face a high possibility of flash floods, with water levels in smaller rivers and streams expected to rise.
The warning is particularly significant for vulnerable communities in areas already exposed to flood and landslide risks.
Authorities have also identified a moderate risk of flash floods and rising water levels across several districts in eastern and central Nepal.
These include Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Khotang, Okhaldhunga, Ramechhap, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Kavrepalanchok, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kathmandu and Dhading.
Several districts in western Nepal have also been placed under alert.
According to the NDRRMA, these include Gorkha, Lamjung, Dolpa, Rukum East, Rukum West, Jajarkot, Darchula, Baitadi, Dadeldhura, Doti, Kailali and Kanchanpur.
The disaster management authority has advised people in vulnerable locations to closely monitor local conditions and official advisories, particularly those living close to rivers and streams where water levels could rise rapidly.
Residents have also been urged to take appropriate precautions and remain prepared to move to safer locations if conditions deteriorate.
The latest warning comes as Nepal continues to remain vulnerable to flooding, landslides and sudden increases in river levels during periods of intense rainfall.
