WEATHER ALERT | BAY OF BENGAL SYSTEM BRINGS HEAVY RAIN THREAT
A powerful weather system over the Bay of Bengal is bringing an increased risk of heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of eastern and central India.
The system, being monitored by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), has affected the Odisha–Andhra Pradesh coastal region and is expected to weaken gradually while moving inland. However, large amounts of moisture associated with the system could continue to trigger widespread rainfall even after landfall.
Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana are among the areas likely to experience significant rainfall.
SIKKIM & WEST BENGAL ALERT
Of particular concern for our region, Sikkim and parts of West Bengal are also expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall as moisture from the Bay of Bengal system spreads across eastern India.
Heavy rainfall in the Himalayan region can increase the possibility of landslides, falling rocks, waterlogging and disruption along vulnerable hill roads. People travelling through landslide-prone stretches are advised to remain cautious and follow official weather, traffic and district administration advisories.
Residents should avoid unnecessary travel through vulnerable areas during intense rainfall and stay updated with the latest IMD warnings.
The Voice Of Sikkim will continue to follow developments and provide updates as official information becomes available.
