🌧️ Monsoon Activity Weakens Sharply Across India, Rainfall Deficit Touches 64%

The Siliguri Today • June 17, 2026 • 12:53 PM

The southwest monsoon has witnessed a significant slowdown, with satellite images and IMD data indicating a sharp decline in rainfall activity across several parts of the country.

According to official figures, India received only 19.2 mm of rainfall between June 4 and June 15, far below the normal average of 53.7 mm. This has pushed the nationwide rainfall deficit to a concerning 64%.

Weather experts are closely monitoring the situation as reduced rainfall could impact agriculture and water availability if the trend continues.
